Brotherhood of Trees

Songwriting duo Jay Livingston and Dan Ostrowski planted the Brotherhood of Trees in 2014 on a cold winter night under the watchful gaze of a giant pine grove in rural Maryland.
The following years harvested a catalog of music rooted firmly in Americana, Country, Rock, and Folk. On a lark, Livingston and Ostrowski connected with R.E.M. and Widespread Panic producer John Keane. A friendship ensued and a first trip to record at Keane's studio in Athens, GA commenced in December 2018.
Over the next four years the lyrics and melodies of the Brotherhood germinated into a fresh new Americana Roots sound. The resulting Athens sessions produced a first single "Hollow of the Sun", released by Dippy Frog Records on November 15, 2022.
A second single "Halfway to Georgia" followed on December 2, 2022. Both songs feature Georgia music royalty Randall Bramblett on Hammond B3 Organ and Piano.
The Brotherhood stretched their musical roots up to Berkshire County, MA in early 2022 to work with famed songwriter, producer, and performer Johnny Irion at his Route 8 Studios. Hunkered down in the last days of a New England cold spell, Irion shaped two Livingston compositions, "Blue Eyed Indian" and "Thunder & Lightning", into masterful messages of unconditional love and forgiveness.
The upcoming Brotherhood of Trees album, Roots & Wings, is set for release on Dippy Frog Records in August 2023.
